Barry B. Bercu, M.D.

Dr. Bercu is Professor of Pediatrics, Molecular Pharmacology and Physiology at the University of South Florida College of Medicine.  He was appointed Professor at the University of South Florida in 1984 after seven years in the Child Health Institute at the NIH in Bethesda, Maryland.  At the NIH he created the pediatric endocrine training program and developed his scientific career.  Dr. Bercu is internationally recognized for his scientific work in the areas of regulation of growth hormone secretion, sexual development and generalized resistance to thyroid hormone.  He has published over 180 articles in major journals and edited books.  He has edited seven books and served as guest editor for several journal publications.  Dr. Bercu has served on the editorial board of seven international journals and functioned as a scientific reviewer for over 25 journalsDr. Bercu is and has been a consultant in both the public and private sectors.  He has received significant grant funding from multiple sources including government (DHHS) and pharmaceutical industry.  Dr. Bercu has successfully obtained seven patents.
Dr. Bercu has lectured extensively nationally and internationally.  He is highly regarded for organizing about thirty international, national symposia in many areas including growth hormone, growth hormone secretagogues, aging, pituitary and bioethics.  The latter combines Dr. Bercu’s expertise as an organizer and his 5 and 1/2 year tenure as chair of the University Biomedical Institutional Review.  In recognition of these

Robert Corish, M.D.

Dr. Corish received his doctorate in medicine from the University of Miami School of Medicine in 1991.  He subsequently completed his residency in Anesthesiology at Rush St. Luke’s Presbyterian in Chicago, IL.  Dr. Corish was a member and former Director of Stateline Anesthesiology, a partner in MACL Anesthesia and is currently Medical Director of lluma Center for Health in Adventura, Florida.  He is a founding member of the American Society of Integrative Medical Practice and was a professional soccer player with the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers for 3 years.

Enrique Ginzburg, M.D

Dr. Enrique Ginzburg received his medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine.  He completed a Fellowship in Vascular Surgery at the Vascular Surgeons of Central Ohio and a Residency at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center. Dr. Ginzburg is currently Professor of Surgery, Division of Trauma and Surgical Critical Care at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Medical Director, International Health Center and Co-Director, Neuroscience Intensive Care.  In addition, Dr. Ginzburg holds secondary appointments as Attending Surgeon/Physician of Trauma and Surgical Critical Care at Jackson Memorial Medical Center, Attending Staff Surgeon and Surgical Consultant at the VA Hospital and Attending Surgeon at the University of Miami Hospital and Clinics, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Ginzburg was the coordinator of the affiliation between the University of Miami and the University of Tel Aviv.  He was also the founding coordinator of the Trauma Training Program for the Middle East.  This program is responsible for training the current Directors of Trauma at Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem and at Assaf Harofeh Medical Center in Tel Aviv, as well as the future Leader of Trauma for Lebanon. Dr. Ginzburg has been published extensively on a variety of topics in Journals such as American Surgery, Journal of American College of Surgery, Journal of Trauma.  Dr. Ginzburg is also an active member of various professional organizations such as American Association for the Surgery of Trauma and American College of Surgeons.

Douglas C. Hall, M.D.
Dr. Hall received his Doctor of Medicine degree, from the University of Florida, in 1970. He completed his residency at Shands Hospital at the University of Florida in 1974, and has practiced medicine in Ocala since that time.  He received an honorable discharge from the United States Air Force. Dr. Hall has full staff privileges at both local hospitals, Munroe Regional Medical Center and Ocala Regional Medical Center. He has recently served  as Chief of Staff at Ocala Regional Medical Center.  In addition to his private practice of obstetrics and gynecology, Dr Hall is medical director for Midwives of Ocala, a division of Munroe Regional Health System.  This allows him to expand the number of patients served, without the administrative responsibility which would be required if he employed the midwives directly. Dr. Hall's commitment to the health of his patients is demonstrated by his vigilant study of the microbiological causes of disease, and nutritional and other natural methods of counteracting these causes.  He has also completed an extensive course of study on Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice, through The Institute for Fun Dr. Hall is the author of "Making Mama Fit; The Ultimate Game Plan. He is the founder of Pregnagym, a unique physical preparation for expectant mothers...and speaks nationally on fitness in pregnancy.

After specialty training in Family Medicine and Board certification, Dr. Heurich began her career in medical education as a clinical professor in Family Medicine at New York medical College in Valhalla, NY.  Dr. Heurich’s professional duties included instructing medical students, residents and fellows.  She served as Assistant Director of an outpatient medical clinical that served persons with disabilities and as the Medical Director of St. Agnes Family Medicine Center in White Plains, NY.  In addition, she practiced at a Japanese Medical Center of Beth Israel Medical Center before moving to Florida.  Upon arriving in Orlando 11 years ago she continued in medical education at Florida Hospital and served as an Investigator of Clinical Drug Trials.  She remains a faculty member of the Family Medicine Department, of NOVA Southeastern Osteopathic Medical College in Ft. Lauderdale.  As a family physician, she has always chosen to specialize in preventive medical care.  She has attended the certified physician training course at Cenegenics Medical Institute and has been practicing Age Management Medicine for more than 3 years.

Nancy Klimas, M.D.
President, International Association for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Professor of Medicine, Psychology, Microbiology & Immunology, University of Miami Nancy Klimas, MD is the President of the International Association for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.  She is a Professor of Medicine, Psychology, Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Miami School of Medicine and the Miami VA Medical Center.     Dr Klimas directs the UM/VAMC Gulf War and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Research Center, initiated with an NIH Center Award, and supported by VA and NIH funds.   The Center has focused on better understanding of the neuro-immune-endocrine interactions in CFS and GWI, and their role in the pathogenesis of these complex disorders.  More recently the Center has developed a genomics project comparing gene expression before and after an exercise challenge in GWI and CFS.    She is working with the CFIDS Association of America and the Centers of Disease Control to develop core curriculum in the training of health care professionals.  She is leading an international collaborative group of clinicians, linked with a common web-based set of clinical assessment tools, to begin a natural history study of CFS.   She continues to work nationally and internationally to bring a better understanding of CFS and GWI to clinicians and policy makers.

Nagi Kumar, Ph.D., R.D., FADA

Dr. Kumar is an Associate Professor in the Risk Assessment, Detection, and Intervention Program, Division of Cancer Prevention and Control and the Director, Department of Nutrition Research at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute in Tampa, Florida.  She is a Registered Dietitian and a Fellow of the American Dietetic Association and completed her internship and clinical training at the Elmhurst General, Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, New York and Doctoral training at the University of South Florida College of Medicine, Tampa, Florida.  She is a member of the University of South Florida Institutional Review Board, Medical Board and of the Quality Monitoring subcommittee at the College of Medicine. 

Dr. Kumar’s interest and research focus in the past years has been on (1) the role of nutrients and nutrient-derived agents in cancer chemoprevention (2) body composition, steroid hormones and cancer risk and prognosis and (3) eliminating prostate cancer disparity.   Dr. Kumar has forged collaborations with investigators in both the Drug Discovery, Breast, Gastrointestinal and Genitourinary Oncology programs to initiate and develop studies to examine the effectiveness of several nutrients and nutrient-derived agents towards developing these substances as chemopreventive agents.   Dr. Kumar and her collaborative group are currently conducting several investigator-initiated chemoprevention trials examining the role of isoflavones, lycopene, Green Tea Polyphenols and tannic acid in breast, colon and prostate cancers.  Dr. Kumar is the PI of two currently active, multi-institutional clinical studies that include: (a) A Randomized Pilot Clinical Trial of the Action of Isoflavones and Lycopene in Localized prostate cancer: Administration Prior to Radical Prostatectomy and (b) The Specific Role of Isoflavones in Reducing prostate cancer risk for which she holds an Investigational New Drug Approval for a dose of 80 mgs purified isoflavones used in the treatment arm from the Food and Drug Administration (U10 CA81920). Dr. Kumar has in addition completed 2 clinical trials (NCI RO3 CA72588-01A1) and (AICR 99-99BO30 & & DAMD 17-98-1-8659) evaluating isoflavone in modulating hormonal and proliferative markers in breast and prostate cancers. In these studies, Dr. Kumar has in addition, collaborated with the Anatomical Pathology, Clinical Oncology, Pharmacology, Drug Discovery and the Molecular Biology Programs to determine the effective doses of these agents in changing clinical and biochemical intermediate endpoints in addition to understanding the mechanism of action of these agents and the molecular targets.  Dr. Kumar has published a book titled, “Integrative Nutritional therapies in Cancer” and is currently the Editor in-Chief of an international journal, Evidence-Based Integrative Medicine. Dr. Kumar, in addition has two pending chemoprevention trials evaluating the effectiveness of Polyphenon E in prostate and colon cancer progression, submitted in collaboration with several national sites and an international group and the Chemoprevention Branch at the NCI.  

Dr. Kumar has completed a series of studies examining the role of body mass index, body composition, body fat distribution, timing of weight gain, steroid hormones and breast cancer risk and prognosis. Dr. Kumar recently completed a case-control study evaluating the association of purposeful physical activity, body fat distribution, and steroid hormones on premenopausal breast cancer risk. Based on her work exploring the physiological basis of weight gain and fatigue in breast cancer patients on chemotherapy and the poor prognosis it presents, Dr. Kumar was recently funded by the National Cancer Institute to examine the prevalence and magnitude of change in thyroid function as a consequence of chemotherapy that contributes to these symptoms.

Dr. Kumar is currently the Moffitt PI/Project Director of the Florida A&M University (FAMU) Center for Minority Prostate Cancer Training and Research: A Collaborative Program Between FAMU and the Moffitt Cancer Center. (DOD PC030462).  She is also the recipient of the DOD HBCU Summer Internship Program award for 2006-2009 (Project INSPIRE) to train aspiring undergraduates in prostate cancer research.  As researcher, faculty, mentor in the collaborative research and training programs with Florida A&M University (FAMU) Center for Minority Prostate Cancer Training and Research, Dr. Kumar has the experience working with this population in several ongoing studies as a part of this project, including the first Statewide African American Men’s Prostate Cancer Forum held in Tallahassee, which resulted in Dr. Kumar co-authoring a report titled, “ Prostate Cancer Communication: the Dos and Don'ts of Educating African American men about Prostate Cancer, Prostate Cancer Screening, and Prostate Cancer Clinical Trials" (in press).  She has in addition led the creation of the curriculum and content for the didactic and specialized training programs for FAMU graduate students and faculty participants and public education module on Prostate Cancer in African Americans.

Dr. LaValle has been involved with natural medicine for the past fifteen years and is a nationally recognized figure in the field of natural therapeutics. Gaylon McCollough, M.D., FACS

Since entering practice, Dr. E. Gaylon McCollough has obtained international recognition as a surgeon and teacher.  Dr. McCollough was an Academic All-American center on Alabama Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant’s 1964 National Championship Team. That same year, McCollough was drafted by the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys.  Choosing a career in medicine, instead, he has distinguished himself as a pioneer in his profession.

Dr. McDaniel is a graduate of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School & has spent 30 years practicing anatomical & clinical pathology, including positions as the Director of Pathology & Laboratories and Director of Medical Education at Dallas-Ft Worth Medical Center. In 1981 he founded the Fisher Institute for Medical Research.  In 1985, research on the active principle of the Aloe Vera Plant was initiated and the first government-monitored studies in humans using the glyconutrient, aloe polymannose (manapol®), was conducted.   The results were without precedent.  He now devotes his attention to the potential of glyconutrients and other plant micronutrients to restore health for numerous conditions through its support of normal biochemistry of defense and repair. The American Naturopathic Association awarded this work Advance of the Year in 1999. Dr. McDaniel was Director for Mannatech, Inc. for their first 8 years.  Currently, he has taken on the role of Medical Director of MannaRelief Ministries.  Dr. McDaniel assists in the mission to get micronutrients to children whose parents could never afford the products. He has published numerous educational papers on the effects of glyconutritionals in relation to various disease conditions.  

Joseph McWherter, M.D.

Dr. Joseph McWherter received his medical degree in 1977 from the University of Texas Health Science Center.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the American College for Advancement in Medicine. As a practicing physician for over 20 years, Dr. McWherter has seen the need for an increased awareness in preventive health. George R. Merriam, M.D.

George R. Merriam is a physician and Deputy Director for research at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System, and Professor of Medicine and director of the neuroendocrine-pituitary clinic at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle and Tacoma, Washington.  He is a graduate of Harvard and Cambridge universities and of Harvard Medical School.  After a residency in medicine at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center and an endocrine fellowship in the NIH Inter-Institute endocrine program, he became head of the neuroendocrine and the reproductive endocrine units at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development at NIH before moving to the University of Washington  (UW).  With a particular interest in neuroendocrinology, reproductive endocrinology, and endocrine aging, he is on the faculty of both the endocrine and geriatrics fellowship training programs at UW.  Dr. Merriam is the author of more than 150 original articles, books, chapters, and reviews, and his study of episodic hormone secretion was recently cited as a “Classic Paper” by the American Journal of Physiology.  He is an officer of the American Neuroendocrine Society and member of the editorial board of Frontiers in Neuroendocrinology.  He was a member of the Endocrine Society working group on clinical guidelines for evaluation and treatment of adult growth hormone deficiency and served on the planning committee for the 2006 International Congress of Neuroendocrinology, at which his report on the effects of an orally active GH secretagogue in aging received international press coverage.  He has been elected to the American Society for Clinical Investigation and the Western Association of Physicians.

Alan Mintz, M.D.

Dr. Royal is a 1989 graduate of the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific where is received his doctorate, he continued his education by obtaining a Jurist Doctor degree from the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV), William Boyd School of Law in 2003.  Dr. Royal is a member of the Nevada State Barr Association and a practicing clinician and is currently the Medical Director of New Hope Medical, in Henderson, Nevada.  Dr. Royal is a member of the Nevada State Board of Homeopathic Medical Examiners and has also served on their Complaint Committee.  He has an academic appointment of Adjunct Professor at Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Medical Jurisprudence and Ethics.  Dr. Royal is a member of the American Board of Clinical Metal Toxicology and the American Society of Integrative Medical Practice.

Mr. Stilling graduated form the University of Utah, College of Pharmacy in 1983 and received a master’s degree in Pharmacy Administration in 1989.  He graduated from the University of Utah College of Law in 1992.  Mr. Stilling is an attorney and registered pharmacist specializing in drug and medical device law, dietary supplements, legal health care issues, intellectual property, professional licensing, privacy law and other complex commercial litigation.  He is a registered patent attorney and an associate professor at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy where he teaches a course in drug law and presents lectures on health care ethics.  Mr. Stilling was a member of the Utah State Bar Legal Medical Committee for five years, serving three as chairman.  He is a member of the Health Law Section of the American Bar Association, the American Society of Pharmacy Law, and the Utah Pharmaceutical association

Dr. Taylor is a board certified obstetrician/gynecologist, who received his medical degree in 1986 at Emory University. He is also a nationally-renowned lecturer and leading expert in the use of salivary testing for the diagnosis and treatment of hormonal imbalances.  Dr. Taylor’s interest in the effects of hormonal imbalance was initially sparked by the personal impact it had on his family. When all of his skills as a physician could not bring relief to his wife after the birth of their second child, he began his search for a new understanding of the many factors impacting the physical health and well being of women. Richard F. Walker, Ph.D. heads a consulting firm for physicians and health care practitioners called Paradox Regulatory and Scientific Services.  Dr. Walker received his BS in pharmacy from Rutgers University, his MS in Biochemistry from New Mexico State University and his PhD in comparative physiology from Rutgers University.  He completed postdoctoral fellowships in neuroendocrinology and neuropharmacology at Duke University College of Medicine (Center for the Study of Aging and Human Development) and the University of California, Berkeley, respectively.  Dr. Walker held tenured faculty positions at Clemson University (Department of Zoology) and at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine (Department of Anatomy and Molecular Biology/Sanders-Brown Research Center on Aging).  While serving as Associate Director of Toxicology at SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceutical Corp., he was also research professor in the Department of Pharmacology at the Medical College of Pennsylvania.  In addition to his research efforts at the University of South Florida  (USF), Walker served as Director of Compliance and also Director of USF CARES (Clinical Alliance for Research, Education and Service).  He has been the recipient of many federal (NSF, NIH, DOD), state and local research grants and has published extensively in his field of interest which is primarily directed towards neuroendocrine aspects of organismal aging.   Walker is currently Editor in Chief of the peer reviewed journal, Clinical Interventions in Aging, a source of evidence based information for practitioners of anti-aging medicine.

Robert D. Willix, Jr., M.D., FACSM

Dr. Robert D. Willix, Jr., is a former cardiac surgeon that has been practicing Integrative and Preventive Medicine in South Florida since 1981.   He is certified in Age Management Medicine, and is now the Chief Executive Officer of Cenegenics Medical Institute of Boca Raton.

Dr. Willix has been a guest lecturer at the University of Miami School of Medicine, Department of Integrative Medicine since 2000. 

He has authored four books on topics related to Preventive and Integrative Medicine.  His most recent book, “Age PROOFING: 7 Simple Steps to Super Vitality at Any Age” discusses his philosophy on exercise, meditation, nutrition, and neutraceuticals in the prevention of disease and slowing the aging process.

Dr. Yoles is a gynecologist from Israel.  He is an attending physician at the Ob/Gyn department in the Sheba Medical Center, the largest hospital in Israel and also the coordinator of a large menopausal clinic. For several years he has been interested in the role of complementary therapies for menopausal problems and is currently involved in research on natural Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators.  Dr. Yoles has published studies in this area and presented this topic in several international conferences.
